It was a beautiful day here at Belmont. We celebrating the official grand opening of the renovated Chapter House. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Julie Etchingham, who later participated in a fascinating discussion with Austen Ivereigh regarding Faith in the News. The Lord Lieutenant, Edward Harley, attended the event and honored the occasion by planting a Herefordshire Russet tree, representing fresh starts.

The abbey is delighted to announce that Julie Etchingham, the ITV News presenter and journalist, is coming to open The Chapterhouse, together with local honoured guests.

Later in the afternoon she will be in conversation with Austen Ivereigh reflecting on “Faith in the News”—in all its senses, from her professional and Catholic experience.

The day’s programme is open to all—visitors are welcome to join for all or part, but the formal opening is at 2:30pm.

Launch date announced for the Chapterhouse

The official launch (27th August) date for the re-opening of the Chapterhouse has been confirmed.

Abbot Brendan and the Belmont Abbey community are thrilled to share the official launch date for the reopening of The Chapterhouse at Belmont. Everyone is cordially invited to the grand opening on Wednesday, August 27th at 2:30 PM. The abbey welcomes those who wish to attend to kindly inform them of their interest.

The formal launch commences at 2:30pm, but the day will include light refreshments and talks from 11:15 leading up to the formal launch and continued celebrations after.

The Exciting Grand Opening of The Chapterhouse Is Just Around the Corner!

Following three years of meticulous restoration, a wing of the monastery at Belmont Abbey has been beautifully reimagined to incorporate hospitality within the very heart of its gothic architecture. Central to this transformation are ten new en-suite guest rooms, thoughtfully crafted to offer a serene space for peace, prayer, and relaxation. As an integral part of this initiative, the community has literally elevated the roof of a neighboring building to create the Garden Room—an inviting, sunlit lounge and dining area equipped with self-service amenities, seamlessly connecting to the tranquil beauty of St Luke’s Garden.

Together with eight beautifully refurbished rooms in the former guesthouse, The Chapterhouse now offers 18 comfortable en-suite bedrooms, ready to welcome both long-standing friends and new visitors. Ideal for those coming for a retreat, a few days of quiet, or to explore the beauty of Herefordshire, the community hopes visitors will find here a space of welcome and renewal.

The abbey’s conference facilities are expected to find a new reach for groups, businesses and charities – the largest facilities in South Herefordshire.

The community looks forward to once again hosting parish and church groups, spiritual retreats, and conferences. In fact, the first group to “test the beds” were a wonderful group of young Jesuits from all over the world who came to explore the theme of integral ecology – an encouraging start to this new chapter in the abbey’s life of hospitality.
